Find your first useful AI task

Which step of today’s work could AI help with?

TAKE AWAYA task card: the goal, AI’s role, what you will prepare, and what you will check.

Start with a small task whose result you can check. For example, you already know an event’s time and venue and want to turn those facts into a draft announcement. You supply the facts and requirements, AI helps organize the wording, and you check, edit, and decide how to use it.

DIAGRAM · HUMAN–AI DIVISION OF WORK

People supply facts and final decisions; AI handles drafting and organizing in between

Split the workflow into three stages: supply facts (human) → draft & summarize (AI) → verify unknowns and approve sending (human).

STEP 01 · HUMANSupply Verified Facts• Time: Nov 6, 14:00–16:00• Venue: 3F Room (Due Nov 3)• Rule: Do not promise unknownsSTEP 02 · AI DRAFTDraft Text & Summarize Notes✓ Organize readable email draft✓ Summarize meeting notes✕ Cannot confirm facts or approve sendSTEP 03 · SIGN-OFFVerify Unknowns & Send• Confirm catering, remote & spend• Check draft against source• Final decision to send externally
01 HUMAN INPUT

Supplied Facts & Rules

Nov 6 14:00–16:00, 3F room, Nov 3 deadline; no invented details.

02 AI ASSISTANCE

Draft Notice & Summarize Notes

Turn scattered notes into a readable draft or structured summary.

03 HUMAN AUTHORITY

Confirm Unknowns & Approve Send

Catering, remote access, and actual spend require human confirmation and sign-off.

The method: three small steps

A good first task has clear inputs, a visible output, and a way to check success. “Draft an announcement from these facts” is easier to assess than “organize the whole event.” AI can help draft, organize, and compare, but it cannot establish catering arrangements, actual spending, or attendance without evidence. Someone with the relevant information must confirm those facts.

  1. Choose one concrete output

Choose one announcement, summary, or action table. Identify who will use it and why, so this attempt has a clear finish line.

  2. Separate organizing from confirming

AI can help organize a supplied time and venue. Confirming a booking, approving spending, and sending the message still require the relevant people and actions. A sentence saying something happened is not proof that it did.

  3. Write your checks before starting

For example: the time and venue match the source, the registration deadline is included, and unconfirmed catering has not become a promise. Check the draft against these points before using it.

Prepared example: choose one checkable step

The requests and responses are prepared teaching examples, not live model output.

Source A · Event notice

The team exchange event is scheduled for November 6, 14:00–16:00, in the third-floor meeting room. Sign up by November 3, 18:00. The target is 20 attendees; actual registrations have not yet been counted. No registration method, link, or event contact is provided.

Source B · Budget and equipment

The budget cap is CNY 2,000. No actual spending has been recorded. A projector is available in the meeting room.

Source C · Preparation notes

Catering and remote access are unconfirmed. Lin will organize the agenda before November 2; Zhou will confirm the attendee list before November 3. The photography owner and deadline remain unconfirmed.

The request

Use the event information to arrange the entire team session for me.

Example response

I will confirm catering, arrange remote attendance, and send invitations to colleagues.

What to noticeThis is a prepared problem example, not a live AI response. It offers to handle unresolved matters without establishing authority, actions, or checks.

Your turn: what would you ask next?
Next time, AI says “catering is confirmed” but provides no record of an actual action. What should you do?
Try it yourself with different material

Try another task: prepare an onboarding guide

Copy the material and task into your usual tool to practice. Then review your work against the checks.

Material

Fictional material: a new colleague starts on December 1 and will work in Area A on the second floor. Administration has a draft office guide. Account access requires administrator approval, and no decision has been provided. The equipment handover contact is unconfirmed.

Task

Write a task card: choose one output AI can help prepare, then list its inputs, human confirmations, and checks.

Review your work

  • The output is one clearly scoped, checkable guide draft or action list.
  • Account approval and the equipment contact remain for the relevant people to confirm.
  • Writing a guide is not described as granting access or completing onboarding.

In the example workspace below, decide how each task should be shared. Check what information you have before choosing AI’s role. This workspace uses prepared scenarios and rule-based feedback; it does not make live AI calls.

Allocate the work first

Separate tasks where AI can draft first from decisions the responsible person must make. Drafting with AI still requires human checking.

Check again after making changes.

Drafts stay only on this page and are not restored after refreshing or leaving. Copy or download what you want to keep. Switching language does not delete your writing.

ONE IDEA TO KEEP

Start with clear inputs, a visible output, and checks you can perform. Keep fact confirmation and the final decision with people.

Try it in your own AI tool
  1. Open an AI chat tool you already have access to, start a new conversation, and paste the complete task sheet into its input box before sending. Use only the fictional text here; no work files, passwords, or personal details are needed.
  2. Read the task card and identify information you need to supply or confirm. Check whether it has promised catering, remote access, or actual spending without evidence.
  3. If the roles remain vague, ask: “Limit AI’s step to one draft I can check, and list how I should check it.”
  4. Copy and save the task card you accept. Then use the same four fields for a different task. Finish by explaining the division of work in your own words.

Complete the checks above to record your progress. This records example practice; try a different task independently to test your skill.
