Supply the right materials for grounded answers
How do you organize scattered notes before handing them to AI?
Dumping raw chat logs, unrelated tables, and personal phone numbers into AI buries key facts in noise and exposes unnecessary details. Select only the passages relevant to the task and mark unresolved gaps before you ask.
Before prompting: keep verified evidence, strip noise & privacy, and label gaps
More text is not better context; chat noise dilutes focus and personal phone numbers create privacy risk.
Notice A + Budget B + Equipment C
Covers time/venue, CNY 2,000 cap, confirmed projector, and open items.
Chat Noise D + Personal Phone E
Irrelevant banter adds noise; personal phone numbers must be sanitized.
List Missing Link, Contact & Catering
Append an explicit gap note so AI leaves placeholders instead of guessing.
The method: three small steps
A clean material pack does three things: keeps essential factual passages, removes irrelevant chatter and sensitive fields, and lists missing details explicitly as unknown. Add a clear scope rule: “Answer only from the supplied material and mark unstated details as unconfirmed.”
Select only passages relevant to the output
An event notice needs time, venue, registration deadline, and confirmed equipment. Lunch chatter in the group log only adds noise and should be removed.
Strip unnecessary personal and internal fields
Even if you hold the raw signup sheet, drafting a general notice never requires colleague phone numbers or staff IDs. Keep only aggregate or non-identifying facts.
State missing details and scope limits explicitly
End the pack with “Registration link and contact not provided; catering and remote access unconfirmed—do not invent them.” Setting boundaries upfront saves heavy editing later.

Prepared example: filter noise and list unknowns upfront
The requests and responses are prepared teaching examples, not live model output.

Source A · Event notice
The team exchange event is scheduled for November 6, 14:00–16:00, in the third-floor meeting room. Sign up by November 3, 18:00. The target is 20 attendees; actual registrations have not yet been counted. No registration method, link, or event contact is provided.
Source B · Budget and equipment
The budget cap is CNY 2,000. No actual spending has been recorded. A projector is available in the meeting room.
Source C · Preparation notes
Catering and remote access are unconfirmed. Lin will organize the agenda before November 2; Zhou will confirm the attendee list before November 3. The photography owner and deadline remain unconfirmed.
The request
Here are 200 group chat messages and a signup sheet with phone numbers—write our event notice.
Example response
Everyone is having hotpot on Friday noon and joining the event on November 6; contact Zhang at 138xxxx…
What to noticeThis is a prepared problem example. Mixing lunch chatter and personal phone numbers into the input confuses extraction and risks exposing private details.
Your turn: what would you ask next?
Try it yourself with different material
Try another pack: prepare an FAQ context pack
Copy the material and task into your usual tool to practice. Then review your work against the checks.
Material
Fictional items: 1. public product manual (supports CSV export up to 5,000 rows); 2. internal chat about weekend team building; 3. raw ticket containing a customer’s personal email and home address; 4. unconfirmed item (PDF export launch date undecided).
Task
Assemble a material pack for drafting a “Data Export Guide,” stating what to keep, what to remove, and how to bound unknowns.
Review your work
- Keep the CSV export and 5,000-row limit details.
- Remove weekend chat noise and the customer’s personal email and home address.
- List the PDF export launch date explicitly as unconfirmed, with no promised date.
Select the necessary material snippets in the workspace below, set rules for missing details and answer scope, and assemble a clean context pack.
These materials describe a fictional event. No AI model is called. Selections are checked against explicit rules; you review your own writing against the sources.

Drafts stay only on this page and are not restored after refreshing or leaving. Copy or download what you want to keep. Switching language does not delete your writing.
Provide a relevant, clean, bounded material pack and make unknown items visible from the start.
Try it in your own AI tool
- Open an AI chat tool you already have access to, start a new conversation, and paste the complete task sheet into its input box before sending. Use only the fictional text here; no work files, passwords, or personal details are needed.
- Notice how listing “Unknowns & Missing Details” separately prevents AI from inventing registration links or catering promises.
- Try sending the request without the unknowns section once and compare how the two responses handle missing facts.
- Save this three-part structure—“Material Pack + Unknowns + Scope Rule”—to reuse whenever you work with messy notes.
Complete the checks above to record your progress. This records example practice; try a different task independently to test your skill.
