De-lighting & 4-Channel PBR Reconstruction for Real-Time Engines
Why do some AI 3D models look acceptable in neutral previews but look like flat plastic cutouts under dynamic sunset or indoor lighting?
The most common material flaw in raw AI 3D models is baked-in lighting: highlights and ambient shadows from the prompt image are painted directly into BaseColor, while true Roughness, Metallic, and Tangent-Space Normal channels are missing or flat.
The method: three small steps
Production PBR reconstruction enforces four clean channels: 1. `BaseColor`: de-lighted albedo stripped of baked specular spots and shadows; 2. `Metallic`: binary/clean separation between raw metal (1.0) and dielectrics (0.0); 3. `Roughness`: micro-surface gloss variation; 4. `Normal`: high-poly relief baked in `Non-Color` tangent space.
Strip baked highlights and ambient shadows from BaseColor
Audit the albedo map for painted-on specular hotspots or pitch-black creases, using PBR channel generation or de-lighting passes to recover flat base color.
Separate Metallic and Roughness grayscale maps
Assign accurate metallic and roughness values to armor, paint, and fabric so specular reflections respond dynamically to camera and light movement.
Verify Normal map is set to Non-Color tangent space
Set the Normal map Image Texture node to `Non-Color` (never `sRGB`) so gamma correction does not warp surface normal vectors.
In the PBR 4-Channel Calibrator below, compare a single baked-lighting texture against the de-lighted 4-channel PBR setup on Aegis Vanguard (eb3a0980).
De-lighting & 4-Channel PBR Inspector
Place Aegis Vanguard (eb3a0980) inside a rotating HDRI environment viewer and compare the two material pipelines.
Switch to the recommended VECTOR controlled pipeline option to resolve topology, UV, or QA gate errors.
Never leave specular highlights in BaseColor, and always set Normal maps to Non-Color; clean 4-channel PBR ensures consistent look-dev across Blender, Three.js, and game engines.
Run it in the VECTOR 3D workbench or Blender pipeline
